For Zoe’s Blog
Greetings, fans of Zoe!
It’s been a little while since we’ve checked in, but rest assured, Zoe’s
been doing lots of growing and living the life.
April was spent taking art classes at Toddlers in Motion and gym classes
at The Little Gym. May was Greek Easter
(finally!), Mother’s Day fun and lots of fun in the sun. June was trips to Point Pleasant Beach and
Father’s day fun in Uncle Peter Miras’s pool!
Apparently Zoe is part fish – it’s hard to get her out of the
water.
July has been all about Cape Cod so far. Here is a rundown of our trip:
Thurs 7/4:
Skaket beach, nap, Skaket again, Alia’s birthday dinner
with four cakes and four fireworks candles at 945pm (Zoe was less thrilled than
on her birthday -- sleepy). We also
watched some of Back to the Future and the Macy Fireworks on tv with Maya and
Kaia Soffan.
Fri 7/5:
Conor and Lisa came, with baby-in-making in tow. We went to Pilgrim Lake and then Sundae School
to enjoy ice cream melting all over our clothes. Zoe fell asleep in the car naked, naturally. We went back to the beach but we had another
late dinner night and Zoe fell asleep before dinner time. You’d be exhausted too if you were on vacation
from your vacation of a life!
Sat 7/6:
I golfed all day with Ben and Eric. My highlight was back
to back pars early, but Ben and Eric had a couple birdies! Zoe went to Nauset Beach, then after a nap we
went back to Pilgrim Lake. Saturday
night was lobster night! Zoe had some
lobster too. We watched family feud and
played Apples to Apples – the best card was ‘Canada’ for ‘Annoying.’ Is Canada annoying? Feel free to comment!
Sun 7/7: Rema and Ben left, Conor and Lisa left, we went
back to Skaket Beach in the am, back in the evening before pizza night with Jen
and her parents. Short and sweet.
Mon 7/8:
Hanna and Lauren were here, and it was time to have some
fun with them. A sunny morning meant fun
times at Skaket beach. Zoe was brave
enough to float on a kickboard all by herself for the first time ever – I was
wicked proud of her confidence and skills.
We found a magic show in the evening with a real bunny, then enjoyed ice
cream at Emack and Bolio’s in Chatham.
Tues 7/9:
Tuesday was our first cloudy day, but we improvised well. We bade adieu to Jidu in the morning, who
commuted directly to New York City in his usual professional attire of a
striped shirt, shorts and gold chains.
After Jidu left, eight of us went to the ZooQuarium in West Yarmouth. Hanna, Lauren and Zoe enjoyed feeding the
llamas and sheep, watching the owl and falcon bird show and checking out the
other cool animals and fish. Zoe pooped
out in the car for a nap, but the evening was filled with more HLZ trio antics.
Zoe visited Hanna and Lauren at Auntie Linda’s house and the games began. We blew bubbles and played ‘Bubble Wars’
where Hanna chased us all over the deck in the back yard! Afterwards we ate pizza and watched Brave til
sleepy time. It was a great day!
Wed 7/10:
Zoe’s first stitches L See separate post.
Thurs 7/11:
Zoe loved a morning puppet show at the Cape Rep Theatre
with Dad and Situ. She even fed the dog
puppet a real raisin! We went home with crocodile,
butterfly and shark puppets of our own!
After the show we went to visit Chef Paul for handmade chocolate truffles,
and waved hello to the neighboring chickens in the coop. (I realize these words have never been
assembled in this order in the history of the universe. But yes, there’s a chicken coop, with some
nice chickens and some angry roosters, right next to a chocolate shop. This is part of the charm of Cape Cod!) Situ also took us to Lemon Tree Pottery where
Zoe perused statues of everything from Roman Gods to puppy dogs. Nikki and I went for lobster rolls at Arnold’s
during nap time, then Zoe was right back out to the park at night. This time we went to awesome new park behind
the elementary school, with an area specially designed for two year olds!
Fri 7/12:
Bee sting in the morning!
We told Zoe 1000x to avoid the bees in Jidu’s flowers, but she couldn’t
help herself. She got herself stung on
her right index finger, but we were lucky it ended there. We rubbed it with ice and garlic while it
swelled and waited for more to happen.
As usual, she bounced back after about 10 minutes and we were off to the
juggling show! Zoe sat still for the
juggler and even helped his act when called!
We went back to see the statues for a bit with Mom, ate some fish and chips
in Brewster and went back home for nap time.
Situ spent the evening with Zoe while Nikki and I went to an ocean side dinner
at The Ocean House. GGL Lobster =
yum.
Sat 7/13:
Pirate Palooza!
Zoe dressed up as the cutest pirate in the world with an eye patch and a
pink bandana, and marched in a pirate parade with real pirates! She also participated in a treasure hunt, got
a pirate ship tattoo and made pirate swords out of newspaper, which she used in
her sword fight with other pirates! It
was as fun as it could get for a mini scalawag.
She tired herself out in the bounce castle and had a nice nap on the ride
home. In the evening, we were finally
able to go back to Skaket Beach. Zoe, of
course, could not swim, but low tide at Skaket Beach means good times catching
hermit crabs, making sand castles and flying kites!
Sun 7/13:
Our last day on the Cape.
The morning was beautiful and hot.
Zoe enjoyed another morning at Skaket Beach in low tide making friends
and harassing crabs. The evening was
spent in Chatham at an awesome carnival!
Zoe had her face painted, rode a bunch of carnival rides and climbed the
nearby jungle gym (be careful!). At
dinner time we had pizza at Carmine’s and candy from the candy shop, but not
before ‘sneaking up on the tiger.’ We found
our way into an earthy shop in Chatham with a tiger rug tacked onto the
wall. Zoe and I pretended to sneak up on
the tiger and scare him – except it would be Zoe who would scream when I said
boo!
Around 930pm we started our overnight drive back to
NJ.
And if you made it this far reading this post, you win my
congratulations.
Phew!
See you soon,
Alex, Nikki and Zoe.
